Through combining my training in the techniques of traditional Ainu sculpture (from the Lake Akan area in Hokkaido, Japan) and my own spirit and passion for POP ART, I have been able to reconstruct the world of my imagination. Currently, this world has grown to include character design, commercial displays, illustration, furniture, and object creation.

As a student I began a part time job designing and hand dyeing fabrics orgso-me monoh. The place I worked at was a so-me design studio that was dedicated to artist designed handmade works. Each original piece was created with love from and the inspiration of the artist. Five years later, I had my first installation exhibition in which I used my so-me crafts and found a delight in using so-me to create atmosphere. I then began making installation works and costumes for the performing arts. One work brought the next and eventually I was asked to illustrate a picture book for a writer whose work I had long admired. My work began to grow included collaboration with various musicians and illustration. For me color dyeing fabrics, painting, and creating atmosphere for a performance or installation are all ways to express the same inspiration and are all manifestations of the same spirit. As in life, the good times and the bad times are connected, and if I can someday learn to enjoy all their shades and colors, then I would feel so happy...

When I see a flashy color or an interesting figure my heart starts to dance and my imagination begins to play... airplanes like fish swim through a blue jelly sky, steam wafting from chocolate cookie manholes reminds me that percolating beneath New Yorkfs streets are rivers of piping hot coffee... This habit started when I was young, though I canft remember when. I believe Ifm not the only who does it. People play with their imaginations all the time. Its super fun, hard to stop and can take up a lot of time... sometimes I feel like I need a clock! So one day I made one. Honestly, Ifve never liked clocks, because I donft like to think about time. But my clock fits my room okay... so now Ifm making them for other people, who also like to play with their imaginations.
